January: Book of the Month

It is the end of the month and that means that it is time to reveal my choice for the book of the month! Yeah, I know most try and do this at the beginning of the month...but, since when do I do things like anyone else? I mean, really...me? Like everyone else?  You've forgotten a few things about me haven't you?

Anyway, enough of that!  Time to get back on topic!  This month's book of the month is....

This book...seriously is absolutely FANTASTIC!  Comically so. I mean, Mark Watney was among the first to step foot on Mars...and there is a very, very good chance he'll be the first person to die on Mars.  There will more than likely be, the "Mark Watney Memorial Crater," somewhere near the landing sight where his crew was.  But, ya know, he'll be remembered of course!

However, it would seem, he isn't quite ready to give up just yet.  Will his resourcefulness be enough to ensure that he won't die before he can get rescued?

You'll enjoy this comical and enjoyable book about a man's struggle to survive odds that should actually have killed him.

Book of the Month: June 2015: The Moon Dwellers

The Book of the Month showcase for June is....*drumroll*

The Moon Dwellers by David Estes

When I first started my blog David was one of the first authors that I interviewed, one of the first authors that I seriously started reviewing and instantly I'd come to love his writing.  Unfortunately my collection of his works is lacking, but I will be fixing that as soon as I can.  I am very fortunate to have met him, and I'm quite glad to share with you this series because it is one of my favorites.

I am also currently re-reading this book, and continuing the series as I've the first three books, I'm missing book four.  I will probably also be re-reading his Evolution Trilogy...and the first two books in The Country Saga...which The Earth Dwellers ties into...which is the fourth book in the Dweller's Saga...as well as The Country Saga...!!!!!

This book, the first in the Dwellers, has been included on Buzzfeed lists, and is DEFINITELY one of those books you should read if you love YA Dystopia, and if you loved The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins.  Seriously...it is that good.

David Estes is by far one of my favorite YA authors, and it is a pleasure to have gotten to know him and lose myself in the fantastic worlds he has created.  If you've never heard of him...I highly encourage you to check him out and start reading his stuff.  It is that good.

Guillermo del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities: My Notebooks, Collections and Other Obsessions.  Released for print on October 29, 2013.  I adore Guillermo del Toro's movies and his vision and his ability to make things twisted and nightmarish.  Seeing this book makes me want to have a marathon of his movies - my favorite being Pan's Labyrinth.

Book of the Month: October

Book of the Month is a new series here at Confessions of a Bibliophile, and I will be sharing with you my favorite book that I'd read this month, or the favorite new release that I am lusting after and desperately want on my bookshelf.

For the Month of October, the book is Guillermo del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities.  This book is perfect for any del Toro fan.  With original notes, original journal entries, notes in Spanish and English, and even includes notes from a variety of his films.

The film notes included in this book are:

  • Cronos
  • At the Mountains of Maddness (not yet made)
  • The Count of Monte Cristo
  • Mephisto's Bridge
  • Mimic
  • The Devil's Backbone
  • Don't Be Afraid of the Dark
  • Blade 2
  • Hellboy
  • Hellboy 2
  • Pan's Labyrinth
  • Pacific Rim
I have seen most of these, and I loved this year's The Simpson's Treehouse of Horror XXIV, which the opening was done by Guillermo del Toro, and I managed to catch each and every one of the horror movie/show references in the opening.  The Pan's Labyrinth references were some of my favorites.

This book releases October 29th and is available through Amazon.com for $36.  It is also available on B&N.com for $36.72.  Both sites are offering the book for free shipping, Amazon via their Prime membership, and B&N because the order is over $25, and will be free if it ships in the US.
