A book nerd that doesn't have this problem, is one that I am insanely jealous of. Just sayin'.
Anyway, it is FRIDAY! Yes, Friday! We've survived another week! You know what that means...time for another edition of What's On My Kindle? Where I share some of the books that I have stored on my kindle to read immediately, or allow them to sit until I forget they are there...only to come across them again when I am floundering for something to read (yeah, true story that). You all also know that I am INSANELY OCD and organized when it comes to my kindle categories...so without further adieu, I present you this week's What's On My Kindle?
The first book in the HOUSE OF ROYALS series by Keary Taylor. I snagged this one when it was free, and I'm actually looking forward to reading it. I might actually add it to March's TBR pile, which I am currently formulating given the fact that we are nearly done with this month already (GASP!) which is absolutely maddening. Though, it means that my birthday is getting closer (yeah, not sure why I'm excited about that.) ANYWAY, tangent ftw! Alivia Ryan inherits Conrath plantation, and finds a mansion and staff who look at her with fear in their eyes. Ian Ward, well, he attempted to kill her when they first met - and then insisted that he train her how to defend herself against the House. Interested yet? I know I am!
Another I'd snagged by an author I like and had been wanting to read things by her before. I'd read some short stories, some blurbs on facebook and things like that. So, when Alpha was free on Kindle, I snagged it. I'd checked the reviews, and things like that. So, there are mixed reviews and this book definitely will end up being filed in my erotica section on my Kindle when all is said and done. However, I'm willing to look over the reviews, and ultimately I will formulate my own opinion of the book and share my review when I ultimately read it.
Basic premise is this: Floundering under the weight of bills and other financial obligations, girl gets check in the mail for 10k, cashes it. Another month goes by, another check. Totaling 120k over the course of a year. Knock on the door...time to pay her debt...oh, and there were notes on the first three checks reading "You Belong To Me."
This one, I think I'm saving for a day or so when I need an ugly cry. Simply because that's what Colleen Hoover's books seem to inspire in me. That deep, dark, ugly cry that makes you feel weak, empty and broken. I am not sure I'm ready for that right now, and the fact that this is part one of three and I only own PART ONE is definitely a sign I should get the other two parts before I embark on this journey of emotional chaos. Also, because this is part one of three...I have a feeling I will want to pitch my Kindle across the room when it ultimately ends because there is a good chance it will be a cliffhanger. Ugly cry + cliffhanger = things get thrown.

What's On My Kindle? All the Feels Edition
Welcome to this week's edition of What's On My Kindle? Where I showcase some of the books that I've got on my Kindle (most of which are on my ever growing TBR list and I proudly admit that I have one click problem). Some of them I've read, and continue to re-read because they are some of my favorite novels, and written by my favorite authors.
1.) The Fault in Our Stars
Also now a major motion picture! Which I've yet to see, however, I do follow John Green on both Twitter and Facebook and I saw awesome pictures from while they were filming and I want to see this. I will have to check out redbox or see if it is on Netflix or Amazon for streaming...soon.
Seriously, this book is all about the feels. It is not your average happy go lucky story - though there are very happy moments within the story itself. It reminds us in a very human way about our mortality. Everything will come to an end at some point - we all live for a finite amount of time, and ultimately we die.
Despite tumor-shrinking medical miracles, Hazel's story will be ending prematurely. Her story's ending was written at the time of her diagnosis. However, the time between now and that ultimate ending is going to be re-written when Augustus Waters shows up at a cancer kids support group.
Okay.
Okay.
2.) Paper Towns
Coming to theaters JULY 24, 2015!!!!! SQUEE!!!
Yes, another one of John Green's book is being made into a major motion picture. This one is another one that hits you in the feels and constantly keeps you going from start to finish.
Quentin has always loved Margo Roth Spiegleman - from afar. However, what happens when she comes into his room through his bedroom window in the middle of the night...dressed like a ninja? She drags him on an all-night ingenious revenge plan. However, Margo, always the enigma, becomes a complete and total mystery.
There are clues, left only for Quentin to find. As he goes along the very disconnected path, he begins to discover that Margo Roth Spiegleman is not the girl he originally thought she was.
3.) Looking For Alaska
Yet another John Green novel that will be soon upon the big screen! SQUEE!! Is it 2016 YET? Pretty please? WANT NOW!!!
Miles "Pudge" Halter lives one perpetual nonevent. He has an obssession with last words, and the "Great Perhaps," and ultimately goes to Culver Creek Boarding School...where his life stops being a nonevent. Why?
The girl down the hall...Alaska Young. Gorgeous, funny, clever, self-destructive Alaska. A girl who is an event unto herself.
Once he meets Alaska, Pudge's life is never the same.
Alright Nerdfighters...which of the two movies that are coming out are YOU most looking forward to seeing? For me, I want to see them both...but my heart is with Looking for Alaska because that is by far my favorite John Green novel (sorry TFiOS...I love you too....).

If you can read any novel by John Green and not experience all the feels, then there has to be something wrong with you...just sayin'. I mean seriously! A lot of his stuff, I need to read with an abundance of tissues, including the first book on my list...here we go!

What's On My Kindle? New Acquisitions Part 2
Welcome
to the twelth installment of What's On My Kindle?
What exactly is What's On My Kindle? This is my own little thing that I am going to be getting out every Sunday. Within this post I'll list a few of the books that are currently on my TBR list on my Kindle. Some are freebies (or were when I bought them), and others I paid for with gift cards, or had a few spare bucks to spend on a book.
All of them, I fully intend on getting to, at some point (and taking a massive chisel to my to-read list and hopefully hack it down to under 1000, again).
The newest book published by Michael Cargill, I have in both e-book format and in physical format. Cargill is a fantastic author, and his blog is fantastic to read. This British author is by far one of my favorites and I was lucky to receive a free copy of this book in paperback. Currently he has the book available for free download on Smashwords. You can find the coupon code on his current blog post. I highly recommend this read, as well as anything else on his list that you can find!
A Kindle freebie that is now waiting patiently on my Kindle to be read. This will be the first Boshoff that I've read, so there will definitely be a review to follow once I finally get to it, and get it sorted to where it belongs.
This new young adult dystopian novel by Scott Cramer is one that caught my attention, mainly by the cover. It was a Kindle Freebie, and I am looking forward to reading it. YA is one of my favorite genres to read and I am also a sucker for good dystopian novel. This is also the first book in The Toucan Trilogy, so hopefully it will be a series that I will want to sink my teeth into and not let go.

What's On My Kindle? New Acquisitions
Welcome to the ninth installment of What's On My Kindle?
What exactly is What's On My Kindle? This is my own little thing that I am going to be getting out every Sunday. Okay, so like any and all bibliophiles, I may be reading half a dozen books right now, and at any given time - I still BUY more! Well, constantly raid the freebies on Amazon (addicted...like no tomorrow). I will get to them eventually, but the stacks will continue to get bigger and bigger knowing my luck.
But, I figure this week I will share with you some of my most recent acquisitions that have been added to my ever growing to be read pile.
1. Ripple by E.L. Farris - When high-powered attorney Helen Thompson discovers that her fifteen-year old daughter has been sexually assaulted, she takes drastic measures. Finding herself in trouble, Helen must relinquish control and put her faith in a process she knows to be flawed.
As a team of lawyers, therapists and women from a safe house help Helen and Phoebe find hope and healing, a sociopath lurks, waiting for his moment to strike.
A lyrical, dark fairytale that will resonate with fans of women’s literature and psychological thrillers, Ripple delves into the nature of evil, without seeking to provide final answers to the issue of what makes a human commit evil acts. And while the author takes readers to scary places, she ultimately shines a light on the human condition and celebrates the triumph of the human spirit in the face of great tribulation. I was given this book in exchange for an honest review, by the author.
2. Spark by Brooke Cumberland - When your past controls your future, how do you move forward?
Velaney Wills knows about that all too well.
Weak, powerless, and fearing the one person who has hurt her the most…can she overcome the barriers to move forward?
Being saved by a muscled Godsend was never on her agenda, but when firefighter, Eric Reilley comes into her life unexpectedly, everything changes.

Being saved by a muscled Godsend was never on her agenda, but when firefighter, Eric Reilley comes into her life unexpectedly, everything changes.
Velaney has never felt loved or cared for, and her past prevents her from letting anyone in. Eric manages to break down her walls—despite the repercussions that come for them afterwards.
They have an undeniable spark—something she has never felt before, but will it be enough? Can love overcome all obstacles? Can they save each other to protect their love or will her past shatter everything she never knew she needed…? This book is for MATURE audiences.
3. A Mind Abducted by Corinne Leigh Donovan - Josie, responsible beyond her age, is helpful around the house, takes good care of her younger sister, and always follows the rules.
This is not enough to prevent her from being abducted by a madman. Making it her mission to fight back, she gives everything she has to outsmart her abductor.
With the help of an unexpected ally, she learns how to keep herself alive long enough to come up with a plan. But, will the plan work?
Will she die at the hands of her captor? And if she survives, will she make it back to her family?
4. It's Just A Dog by Russ Ryan - Charlie Keefe is not just your typical dog lover –– he's a world famous dog painter, a.k.a. "The Picasso of Pooch Portraits". So, after months of grieving over his dearly departed soulmate and wondering if he ever made it to the Rainbow Bridge, Charlie reluctantly agrees to foster a new puppy –– a cute Cavalier King Charles spaniel named Brownie from the local shelter. Soon after, Charlie is surprised to find himself falling head over heels with this new puppy girl –– his 'Rebound Dog', as he calls her –– as well as being romantically attracted to Janelle Jordan, the head hound at the dog rescue.

What's On My Kindle? Series Overload Part One

I have book OCD! I have to have each and every book in a series, and I have to read them in order. This is how I've always been. I blame it on my Aunt when she ultimately sent me BOOK FOUR in the <a href="http://www.goodreads.com/series/43943-outlander">Outlander Series</a> when I was sixteen and I got hooked on it, and I think I'm only missing one or two books of the series (and those I have in print).
One of my big things to do on my Kindle is I have all my series in a specific category, by their series. Some I have listed by Author because I've only got one book in the series, type of thing or I have multiple books that are in a couple of different series (but not the same series).
Some are free, some are ones that I'd paid for, and indulged in occasionally when I have the extra money for.
The series I have on my Kindle right now are:
1. The Mortal Instruments which was featured in the first edition of What's On Your E-Reader? which can be found here.
2. The Infernal Devices - which is another series by Cassandra Clare and set in the same world as The Mortal Instruments and just as good. The books in this series are: Clockwork Angel, Clockwork Prince, Clockwork Princess
3. Delirium - which is a three book series by Lauren Oliver. These books are: Delirium, Pandemonium, Requiem.
4. The Devil's Roses- a five book series by Tara Brown that I'd picked up for free on Amazon. The books in this series are: Cursed, Bane, Hyde, Witch and Death.
5. The Hunger Games - one of my favorite dystopian series of all time by Suzanne Collins. The books are Hunger Games, Catching Fire, and Mockingjay. I am desperately looking forward to Catching Fire coming out in theaters in November.
These are just a small amount of series that I have on my Kindle, there will more than likely be a volume two of this particular topic coming soon!
For now, what are some of your favorite series? Do you have to have all the books before you can properly enjoy a series?

What's on My Kindle? - The Mortal Instruments
Welcome to the fifth installment of What's On My Kindle?

I am crazy for YA Series, and this one ranks amongst my top ten YA series. The Mortal Instrument Series by Cassandra Clare will be the next book to movie series, that will be turning up in theaters soon.
This series at the moment has five books in it, and the sixth book is currently in the works and slated for publication in 2014. I've not read books two through five yet, but they are definitely on my TBR list at the moment and I'm delighting in getting back to the series. Here are the titles and a bit of a blurb on them, blurbs taken from Goodreads.
1. City of Bones: When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder -- much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Then the body disappears into thin air. It's hard to call the police when the murderers are invisible to everyone else and when there is nothing -- not even a smear of blood -- to show that a boy has died. Or was he a boy?
I will probably begin reading this one toward the end of the year, I'll re-read it before I read further into the series because it's been a little over a year since I last read this book.
2. City of Ashes: Clary Fray just wishes that her life would go back to normal. But what's normal when you're a demon-slaying Shadowhunter, your mother is in a magically induced coma, and you can suddenly see Downworlders like werewolves, vampires, and faeries? If Clary left the world of the Shadowhunters behind, it would mean more time with her best friend, Simon, who's becoming more than a friend. But the Shadowhunting world isn't ready to let her go — especially her handsome, infuriating, newfound brother, Jace. And Clary's only chance to help her mother is to track down rogue Shadowhunter Valentine, who is probably insane, certainly evil — and also her father.
This one, I am definitely looking forward to, to see how Cassandra Clare progresses her series and I know several people who are greatly invested in this series and highly recommend this series.
3. City of Glass: To save her mother's life, Clary must travel to the City of Glass, the ancestral home of the Shadowhunters - never mind that entering the city without permission is against the Law, and breaking the Law could mean death. To make things worse, she learns that Jace does not want her there, and Simon has been thrown in prison by the Shadowhunters, who are deeply suspicious of a vampire who can withstand sunlight.
Again, I've met people who love this book and who hate it. I love hearing from other people before I read books, but ultimately I do not let their opinion impair my own opinion of the books that I read because I don't need anything coloring my reviews.
4. City of Fallen Angels: The Mortal War is over, and sixteen-year-old Clary Fray is back home in New York, excited about all the possibilities before her. She's training to become a Shadowhunter and to use her unique power. Her mother is getting married to the love of her life. Downworlders and Shadowhunters are at peace at last. And - most importantly of all - she can finally call Jace her boyfriend.
The end of the Motal War - always a good thing right?! I mean really, and the best part is - Clary can finally call Jase her boyfriend. YAY for love! Love is awesome! Isn't it? But there is always, always a price.
5. City of Lost Souls: What price is too high to pay, even for love? When Jace and Clary meet again, Clary is horrified to discover that the demon Lilith’s magic has bound her beloved Jace together with her evil brother Sebastian, and that Jace has become a servant of evil. The Clave is out to destroy Sebastian, but there is no way to harm one boy without destroying the other. As Alec, Magnus, Simon, and Isabelle wheedle and bargain with Seelies, demons, and the merciless Iron Sisters to try to save Jace, Clary plays a dangerous game of her own. The price of losing is not just her own life, but Jace’s soul. She’s willing to do anything for Jace, but can she still trust him? Or is he truly lost?
Love has its price. Finally together, and yet torn apart, when they meet again Jase is now a servant of evil. However, can he be freed without the ruining of Clary's brother Sebastian? Even still, is there anyway that Clary can trust Jace again? Again, mixed reviews on this book, so ultimately when I get to it, we will see how things progress and if I'll enjoy it as much as some of my friends have.
6. City of Heavenly Fire: Darkness returns to the Shadowhunter world. As their society falls apart around them, Clary, Jace, Simon and their friends must band together to fight the greatest evil the Nephilim have ever faced: Clary’s own brother. Nothing in the world can defeat him — must they journey to another world to find the chance? Lives will be lost, love sacrificed, and the whole world changed in the sixth and last installment of the Mortal Instruments series!
2014! That is the publication date of this sixth and final installment of this series. Already people are anxiously awaiting the conclusion, to see if the Nephilim will be able to destroy and rid the Shadowhunter world of the greatest evil they have ever faced, Sebastian. Nailbiter to be certain.
This series is definitely on my TBR list and one of those that I'm giving into the hype to dip my toes into the waters of yet another fandom!

Blog Takeover: Michael Cargill: Ebook Piracy Should be Embraced
Ebook piracy, and why authors should embrace it,
rather than fight it
Literature is something of a latecomer to
the digital revolution. In some ways,
this is quite surprising, as it predates other forms of entertainment like
computer games, film, and TV by several thousand years. Mind you, the older generations are often the
slowest to get to grips with anything new.
After all, when was the last time you heard your granddad talk about getting
an Xbox?
Some of the growing pains for ebooks, have
been the same ones that other forms of digital media have gone through, and
still are going through. Piracy is one
such pain.
The mere mention of the word ‘piracy’ generates
quite an angry response from many people, whether they are a writer, or a
reader.
To those people, I say you should perhaps
step back, and rethink things a bit. I’m
an indie author, and I know for a fact that my work is available to download
from torrent/pirate websites. I know
this to be a fact, as it was me who put them there in the first place.
Before I go any further, I’ll just mention
a few things, to provide some context.
Firstly, you won’t see me on any bestseller lists anywhere, not unless
that list is based on an otherwise empty shelf.
Yes, woe is me, get out the violin and all that.
Secondly, years ago, I used to be something
of a profligate pirate myself. My hard
drive was chock full of computer games, applications, films, and TV shows. I knew lots of other people who did the same
thing as well.
Lastly, I have no formal legal education,
or training. This puts me at around
about the same level as that bloke in the pub, who insists that it’s perfectly
legal to shoot a Welshman with a crossbow, so long as you do it outside the
city walls, on a Wednesday afternoon.
Just to be clear, I have no intention of
getting involved with the tedious, semantic differences between copyright
infringement, and theft. I’m also mainly
talking about the financial impact of piracy, rather than the copyright side of
things.
So then: why did I upload my own work to
some torrent sites? Well, “Why not?”, is
my response. At the moment, practically
no-one knows about me. My ability to
market myself is largely limited to blogs, Twitter, and pinning posters up on
the trees along my road. Now that my
work is available by torrents, I have added one more avenue for readers to find
me. I created threads on the torrent
site forums, informing them all of what I did.
I got a few replies from people thanking me, and wishing me luck. In the few days following on from this, I had
an increase in the number of hits to my blog, from people searching for terms
like “Michael Cargill author” on Google. Prior to doing this, that had never happened
before.
Of course, the usual retort to this is “You
don’t get money from pirates!”, to which I say is a load of poppycock.
As I mentioned earlier, I was once a
profligate pirate myself. Yet, despite the
fact that my hard drives were heaving with illegally downloaded material, my
shelves were also teeming with legally purchased material as well.
And the same goes for many people who
pirate things. There are numerous
studies that show that the people who illegally download the most music, are
also some of the biggest purchasers of music.
This won’t be true for all of them, of course, but it is a fact that
cannot be ignored.
It’s also important to recognise that just
because someone illegally downloads a book, or a film, or a song, it doesn’t
necessarily mean that the copyright owner has lost a sale. For a start, pirates will often download
stuff that they have no intention of ever using. They’ll often do it, just because they
can. I mean, who wouldn’t want to download the latest version of AutoCAD if the
opportunity is there...?
A quick search on a torrent site reveals
that I can download the entire works of Stephen King, in about fifteen
minutes. That’s everything that he has
ever published, about sixty five books in total, right there on the
Internet. Ebooks are small in size, so
they take no time at all to pirate.
However, to say that anyone who downloads them all has denied Mr King of
sixty five books worth of royalty fees, is wrong.
First of all, very few people will ever go
out and purchase that many books at once.
Secondly, that pirate simply isn’t going to read all sixty five of those
books either. He or she may read one of
them, and enjoy it. However, they aren’t
that likely to immediately read another Stephen King book. They are more likely to read something from
someone else, whether it’s pirated, or legally bought.
The reading habits of a pirate are exactly
the same as those of a ‘normal’ reader.
They will talk about it to their friends, and family. They will join in with the discussions about
it on Goodreads. They leave reviews on
Amazon, Goodreads, and their blog. After
illegally sampling an author’s work, they may go on and purchase legitimate
copies of their work. This is something
I did when I was a pirate. It’s what I
witnessed other people who pirated media do, as well. It’s what some of the studies into piracy
have shown, as well.
Of course, you don’t have to just take this
indie’s word for it. Bestselling author
Neil Garman has taken a similar stance to ebook piracy. He even made a video on YouTube about it, that
is still available to watch, though he is someone who made his name (and
fortune) long before ebooks ever existed.
It’s also worth bearing in mind that you
can’t actually fight piracy, either. For
every anti-piracy method that is put in place, it is easily defeated. Companies can spend thousands implementing an
anti-piracy scheme, only to see it cracked within hours of its release.
An author could spend a huge amount of
time, scouring all corners of the Internet, trying to hunt down those elusive
illegal links to their work. Yet, all
that time is wasted. It took me less
than five minutes for me to put my own work up on a torrent site, but it might
take days for a furious copyright owner to get something removed from a
website.
Many people will say “if everyone pirated
books, then authors would starve!” Now,
whilst that might be true, it’s also true that if everyone flushed their
toilets at once, the sewer system would collapse. The fact is, that not everyone will pirate
books. At least part of this is down to
the fact that it requires a certain level of technical knowledge to pirate,
that many people struggle to get over.
Some Kindle owners simply don’t know how to manually copy ebooks onto
their device.
To be honest, I probably have more sympathy
for the readers, than I do the authors.
They can be understandably annoyed when they see someone stealing books,
and getting them for free, rather than paying for them.
In writing this short article, I’m not
expecting to drastically change anyone’s mind.
However, the piracy debate has been raging for a long time now, and it
really needs a more level-headed approach.
None of the heavy-handed antics employed so far have put so much as a
dent in it.
I think we should embrace it, rather than
hate it.
