Book of the Week: Stardust

Hello Lovelies!! Welcome to another Sunday! You know what that means...book of the week time! This week's book is one of my favorites.  I've always loved the worlds that Neil Gaiman crafted and his expertise when it comes to storytelling.  I couldn't even begin to fathom a top ten list of Neil Gaiman favorites, however, this one would probably be somewhere near the top.  Maybe one of these days I'll humor you and come up with a top ten Neil Gaiman list.  

For now, however, you'll have to settle with this week's book of the week.  If you've not read this fantasy story, I highly recommend it.  It was the book that introduced me to Neil Gaiman so many years ago.

This story is by far one of my favorites. A love story involving young Tristran Thorn attempting to win the cold heart of Victoria.  She gives him a daunting task - to retrieve the fallen star that they watch fall in the night sky.  However, Tristran quickly learns that outside the walls of their quaint little village, the Faerie, and everything else are nothing like what they seem. 

I instantly fell in love with the storytelling, the whimsy and the life that Gaiman breathes into each and every character that he creates.  This is a story that I constantly go back to every so often to remember why it was that I fell in love with this masterful writer.

BotW: The Ocean at the End of the Lane

It's Sunday! Welcome to another edition of Book of the Week! First one for September!  Holy cow! We only have 4 months left in 2016...and what a year it has been.   This book is absolutely one of my favorites that I've read this week, and I will probably end up re-reading it over and over again.

This is one of my favorite books and honestly I'm usually so comforted by Neil Gaiman's works...even Sandman.  I love his storytelling and the stories that he's crafted in each of his books.  They are something that I always go back to time and time again.  I've even got a re-read of American Gods in the works for either this month or next!

Review: Fortunately, the Milk by Neil Gaiman

Summary: While picking up milk for his children's cereal, a father is abducted by aliens and finds himself on a wild adventure through time and space.

Review: The ability for this man to craft a story astounds me! Everything he writes, I fall in love with, and this one is no exception!  This one I read in a couple of hours, and it is such an adorable, whimsical story that had me sucked in from the very beginning, and the illustrations are just pure delight added to an already fantastic story. 

A father has to head to the corner store to obtain milk for his children's cereal so they actually have something for breakfast (and he has milk for his tea).  However, it isn't just a simple trip to the corner store for milk as the father is then abducted by aliens! 

This book features aliens, dinosaurs, time travel, strange jungle people, a volcano god, wumpires, and two children who ultimately can choose to believe or not believe their father's fanciful tale of what happened and why his trip to the store took longer than it should have.

Welcome to the second edition of What's On My Kindle?

What exactly is What's On My Kindle? This is my own little thing that I am going to be getting out every Saturday or Sunday (depending on what the evil thing known as RL does to me).  Within this post I'll list a few of the books that are currently on my TBR list on my Kindle.  Some are freebies (or were when I bought them), and others I paid for with gift cards, or had a few spare bucks to spend on a book.

All of them, I fully intend on getting to, at some point (and taking a massive chisel to my to-read list and hopefully hack it down to under 1000, again).

No particular order this time, a variety of books from my "unsorted/to be read" category on my Kindle. Trust me, there are a lot of them, and this only glosses over the surface of the archives (as the account my Kindle is connected to is shared by 2 other Kindle users).  Enjoy!

AMERICAN GODS - Who doesn't love Neil Gaiman? Anything Neil Gaiman is WIN in my book.  Days before his release from prison, Shadow's wife, Laura, dies in a car crash.  On the plane, he encounters the enigmatic Mr. Wednesday, who claims to be a refugee from a distant war, a former god and the king of America.

TEN TINY BREATHS - Kacey Cleary’s whole life imploded four years ago in a drunk-driving accident. Now she’s working hard to bury the pieces left behind—all but one. Her little sister, Livie. THE PERKS OF BEING A WALLFLOWER - This novel by Stephen Chbosky, is now a major motion picture.  I'd gotten it because I've heard mixed reviews about both the book and the movie, and when I get those I like too see about things myself.  High School freshman, Charlie, is shy, introspective, intelligent beyond his years and socially awkward.  He is a wallflower, and trying to navigate his way through first dates, mix tapes, family dramas, new friends, and even The Rocky Horror Picture Show! The Perks of Being a Wallflower is a deeply affecting coming-of-age story that will spirit you back to those wild and poignant roller-coaster days known as growing up.

THE GREAT GATSBY - What isn't to like about this story?! I loved it when I read it in high school, and I love it even now.  Eventually, I will see the new remake of this movie with Leo, and not because it has Leo in it.

THE COINCIDENCE OF CALLIE AND KAYDEN - There are those who don’t get luck handed to them on a shiny platter, who end up in the wrong place at the wrong time, who don’t get saved.  This is the first book in the coincidence series by Jessica Sorensen.  Callie does not have luck on her side when she turns twelve and everything was stolen from her.
